Manitoba, Canada has an area of 647,797sq km and about 1,178,000 inhabitants. Its capital is Winnipeg.
Manitoba shares its borders with the provinces of Saskatchewan, Ontario and Nunavut in Canada and the American states of North Dakota and Minnesota. Known for its large fresh-water lakes, Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba, Manitoba is home to the Baldy Mountains as well.
Originally, there were the aboriginal settlements of Ojibwa, Cree, and Assiniboine people in this region along with Chinese immigrants. The first Europeans were the French, followed by the British.
