The Bird Kingdom at the Niagara Falls Aviary, home to almost 400 free-flying birds from all over the world, is one of the area’s most unique attractions. Featuring a massive 50,000-square-foot tropical rainforest simulation, the Bird Kingdom’s main aviary sports a waterfall that towers 40 feet into the air and 80 species of beautiful birds.
The main aviary has a walk-through trail that lets bird-lovers experience the winged creatures and their rainforest environment up-close and personal. The trail also includes convenient wheelchair accessibility. Meanwhile, a smaller aviary is home to tinier but equally-wonderous bird species. In addition to the birds, visitors can view the aviary’s impressive exhibits of saltwater fish, spiders, bats, snakes, skinks and reptiles.
The Bird Kingdom was opened in 2002 at its downtown Niagara Falls location, a building that formerly housed the Spirilla Corset Factory a century ago and the Niagara Falls Museum later in the 20th century. Owners Larry and Marilyn Vann bought the building in 2000, determined to maintain the architectural integrity of the building during the construction of the aviary.
