‘Forks National Historic Site’ is of great importance owing to strategic location, i.e. at junction of ‘Assiniboine’ and ‘Red’ rivers which had been portion of a big continental network relating to water routes. Significance of this site derives from continuous usage for settlement, trade, and transportation. A conventional aboriginal ‘stopping place’, this site had also been site of Fort Gibraltar, 2 Forts Garry, and Fort Rouge.
