Josefov also known as the Jewish quarter is a town quarter located in the city of Prague, Czech Republic. It is considered as the smallest cadastral area of the city.
The history of the quarter dates back to the thirteenth century. However, only a few buildings of the historical era are preserved today. These buildings are perhaps the best complex of Jewish historical monuments of Europe today. Six of the synagogues from the old settlement remain today including the Jewish Town Hall as well as the Old Jewish Cemetery which is probably the most significant in Europe.
Old-New Synagogue is believed to be the oldest existing synagogue in the entire Central Europe. It was built in late thirteen century in a gothic style.
