Chateau d’If had been constructed in the 1st half of sixteenth century. It was originally intended of being a fortress, which would store artillery. It was, however, used in the form of a prison; to house political as well as common prisoners. This usage went on to get immortalized in ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ by Dumas. One can reach this monument through a boat; which takes around 20 minutes.
