The Museum of Ethnology (Museum für Völkerkunde) was founded in Hamburg in 1879. It originated as a small ethnological collection in 1859, but today it includes around 350, 000 exhibits documenting the history of art and culture of different peoples.
Make sure you visit the permanent exhibition in the sumptuous hall of boats, there are many objects and photographs that you can rarely see elsewhere. The museum is a sort of archive of world cultures. It collects, preserves and displays artefacts of world cultures to make them accessible to the general public. The collections on display are ordered by continent of origin.
