The German Oceanographic Museum and Museum of Oceanography and Fisheries, Aquarium, is situated as a museum in the hanseatic city of Stralsund. The museum is located in St. Catherine’s Monastery since its founding in 1951. It is one of the most visited museums in the northern Germany exhibiting oceanographic and maritime species. The museum offers information on numerous exhibitions in fisheries, marine environment as well as its conservation. It consists of over 600 live marine animals, including giant tortoises and tropical fish in 50 aquariums.
The museum also had an honor of being a European Museum of the Year at the Finnish Tampere on 22 May 2010. It has also been the most popular tourist’s attraction in Stralsund and is a place worth visiting to enjoy with family and friends.
