The Olympiapark is a must for any sport lover. Located in the Oberwiesenfeld, it was built for the Olympics in 1972 and since then is the ultimate sports city of Munich.
The park has many facilities to accomodate the needs of the various sports. The Olympiastadion, now replaced by the more modern Allianz Arena, was the scene of the memorable games and continues to be used: it is an important location for international concerts and in 2002 hosted the European Athletics games.
The Olympic-sized swimming pool and the ice rink are open to the public, as well as other sports facilities all perfectly functioning.
The park has also an Auditorium which is used for large concerts and art exhibitions, while the artificial lake, especially in summer,  becomes a meeting point for the young people who organize many events.
The park is dominated by the Olympic Tower, 290 meters high. From the summit you can admire a beautiful view of Munich, and inside there is a revolving restaurant where you can taste some local gastronomic specialties.

To outsiders the Olympia Park in Munich, Germany will be the most famous of all Munich’s parks.  After the International Olympic Committee in 1966 awarded Munich the Olympic Games, plans were solidified for the urban redevelopment of the Oberwiesenfeld ("upper... more meadow-field") area of the city.  Under Nazi plans for the development of Munich into the "Capital of the Movement," this area was supposed to have served as the central slaughterhouse and marketplace.  In its current form the park was constructed for the 1972 Summer Olympics and continues to the current day as one of the central venues for cultural and musical events in Munich. Contained within it are: the Olympic village; the Olympic area; the Olympic Media city; and the Olympic park, a veritable host of Athenian delights you might think.  It is actally very practical and the central Stadium, constructed from 1968 to 1972, is currently home to the highest number of staged national and international competitions in Germany.
