Ostpark in Munich
Ostpark, set deep within Munich, is primarily fantastic for one reason, one very good reason for which I rate it very highly: From the raised ground out along, just above and far beyond the grey city we inhabit as it skirts our horizon, can be seen the majestic, cold; distant and otherworldly presences of the Alps in the distance. It really is a great view to find in a city, comparable with London’s Parliament hill or Rome’s several viewing points.
The park itself is well endowed with green areas and open spaces. You can also get a coffee in one of the small shacks and catch a food vendor, though the quality isn’t always that good. My advice is to bring a beer and a snack and watch the sun go down over the city. Also in the winter Ostpark plays host to a great pair of ice-skating rink which can often be quite empty. They have music too and the bus stops right out front. To get here take the U5 direction Neuperlach Süd to Michaelibad, then bus 195 (dir Klara-Ziegler-Bogen) to Ostpark Eislaufzentrum.
