Jungfernstieg in Hamburg
If you are looking for the main shopping street in Hamburg, go down to Jungfernstieg. It’s a pedestrian street in the center, next to the Binnenalster artificial lake, between Gänsemarkt and the Town Hall Square. It’s known for being the fashionable street of the city.
As well as a wide choice of bars and restaurants, this is where you’ll find the main shops, from the most famous brands and big international chains to smaller shops which sell locally made products.
The road is of some importance on a historical and cultural level. It was the first asphalted road in the history of Germany and it is home to important buildings, including the house of the famous German poet Heinrich Heine.
