Cologne Streets and Neighbourhoods: information about Alter Markt

Near the Rathaus, right in the center of town, is the Alter Markt, the square which holds the traditional market of Cologne.
This large square, adorned with statues and fountains (of which the most famous is that of Jan von Werth), was originally built in the Roman era, but its current form is the result of ad hoc work carried out between the tenth and thirteenth centuries.
