Shopping Streets in Crete
The island of Crete offers several places where you can go shopping, especially in certain areas of its cities. Heraklion is the commercial center of Crete thanks to the numerous designer boutiques that are located in Daedalou Street; if you are looking for souvenir shops you will have to go to the side streets.
If the gift shops or local handcrafts are not enough, you can always go to the Talos Plaza, the largest shopping center that contains not only a large number of shops, but also restaurants and eateries where you can take a break or spend a whole day.
Many souvenir shops are also in the various seaside resorts of Crete, as in the old towns of Hania and Rethymno. Not to be missed are the commercial activities of Ágios Niko-laos, location especially popular for its nightlife, but that also offers a good variety for shopping.
The most widespread handcraft on the island are the decorated glass articles. There are glass artists throughout the nation, although very popular is the great laboratory of blown glass of Kokkino Horio. Even pottery both modern and traditional is very popular, you can find beautiful examples all over the island, but particularly in Margarites, considered the town of the vessels. For the wooden objects, Mátala is the most suitable place.
