By area, Chhattisgarh is the 10th largest state of India, its name being derived from the numerical word thirty six (in Hindi garh means fort and Chattis means thirty-six) princely states in this area.
The main language of this region is the Chhattisgarhlanguage which is regarded to be a dialect of Hindi. Dialects of Dravidian languages are also spoken amongst different states. Apart from these languages the other languages spoken are Hindi, Marathi, Oriya and varied tribal languages.
Chhattisgarh’s homes numerous wildlife sanctuaries and national parks along with 12% share of India’s forests that are a major attraction for tourists.
