Haridwar is a famous pilgrimage city in India. The city is located in the Uttarakhand district of India. The name of the city means 'Gateway of God'. Haridwar is one of the four most important pilgrimage sites in the nation.
Situated on the banks of the holy River Ganga, Haridwar is the place of Brahmakund. Devotees from across the nation come here for a holy bath. There are several legends weaved around the origin of this place.
According to one of the famous legends, this is the place where Prince Bhagirath brought the Ganga River from heaven. The river fell from heaven and landed on Lord Shiva's head. Due to this legend, the river is also known as Bahgirathi.
Jolly Grant airport in Deharadun is the nearest airport for this city. The city is well connected with other cities in India via Railway. It is quite easy to reach the city via roadways as NH-45 connects it with neighboring cities and states.
