Chattar Manzil in Lucknow
Chattar Manzil is a grandiose structure also called as the ‘Umbrella Palace’ constructed by the Nawabs of Lucknow close to the present ‘Hanuman Setu.’
The unique aspect regarding this structure is the strikingly disparate architecture and the highlight of this structure is the Umbrella shaped dome from where the name has been derived.
The structure has some themes of the European architecture and it is evident that the construction was affected by the modern style of architecture in Europe. The construction of this structure was started by the Nawab of Lucknow, Ghazi-ud-din Haider and completed by his son Nasir-ud-din Haider.
Some people are of the opinion that the British remodeled this structure as per their liking while currently, this structure serves as an office of the Central Drug Research Institute.
