Nature and Sport in Hyderabad : Husain Sagar Lake
Husain Sagar Lake or ‘Tank bund’ is reputed to be one of the largest man made lakes in Hyderabad. It is located 1.5 kilometers from Hyderabad and connects the twin cities of Secundarabad and Hyderabad.
It was constructed in 1562 during the era of Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah by Hussain Shah Wahi on a tributary of the Musi River. This artificial lake holds water throughout the year.
In the midst of this lake, there is a monolithic Buddha statue that is made entirely of white granite and is 16 meters tall with a weight of 350 tonnes making it one of the largest statues all over the world.
Water sports and Boating are carried out in this lake and there are active yachting and sailing clubs at the lake.
At the annual regatta, many sportspersons and laypersons participate and during this event the lake appears very colorful and picturesque.
The Andhra Pradesh tourism has planned to offer new facilities like motor boats, speed boats and 48 seater boat with dinner.
