Taraporewala Aquarium in Mumbai
Mumbai Parks and Garden: Information about Taraporewala Aquarium
The Taraporewala Aquarium is situated on the Marine Drive in Mumbai and was officially inaugurated in 1951 by late Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
This aquarium has one of the largest collections of marine and fish life, which includes sea water and fresh water fish, as well as some rare and exotic species, all of them stored in aquariums that extend to three large rooms.
The construction of the aquarium is done in such a way that the beauty and natural surroundings for the fish are maintained and maximum care is taken regarding offering best possible facilities for continuation of the rare species like kite fish, octopus, sea horses etc.
The prime attraction of this place is that it houses some species of sharks also and along with the fish, sea flowers, worms, corals and also valuable pearl jewelry.
In the recent past, a plan has been suggested as per which this aquarium would be upgraded and transformed to an underwater Oceanarium and this would enable people to take a walk under the water.
