Connaught Place or CP is situated in the heart of Delhi. It is the biggest commercial and financial business center in the city. This place was designed by Robert Tor Russell in 1932.
On any map of Delhi, the Connaught Place can be recognized as a huge circle with radial roads that spread in all directions. It appears similar to the spokes of a wheel.
From Connaught’s Inner circle there are eight roads moving outwards. These are named as Parliament Street and Radial Roads 1 to 7. From the Connaught Circus or the outer ring, there are twelve different roads that move outwards.
Amongst these, the most famous is the Janpath which is a continuation of Radial Road 1. The residence of Sonia Gandhi, wife of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi is on this road.
The Victorian architecture of Connaught place is inspired by the Royal Crescent at Bath in England. The Connaught Place is open on all days except Sunday.
