Info about Cork

Area:
37 km2
Elevation:

Overview

Situated in the South West of Ireland, it has a population of 120,000 inhabitants; it’s the third largest city of Ireland, located in one of the biggest Irish counties.
It comprises an important seaport and it’s near Lee.
There is an evident distinction between landscapes full of farmlands, river valleys and sceneries of sandstone hills of the west.
In addition, the splendid seashore comprises large bays and covert coves.
It’s a characteristic Irish city which can be appreciate from the Cork Vision centre situated over North gate bridge; you can admire red sandstone and white limestone.
A t the same time, this city offers the particularity and the modernity of Irish sceneries.
A typical feature is that Corkonians are regarded as the most talkative amongst all the Irish.
You can taste characteristic Irish food, especially in Fenn’s Quay Reastaurant, in the city centre; they only use the best local suppliers and take attention to detail; that’s the reason why it’s the most famous restaurant in Cork.
There are sunny periods, but climate is not generally warm; in fact, rainfall are large in summer, too.

Overall Guide : It’s better to go on Spring or Summer because weather allows open air activities. You can stay in typical irish cottage: they are built to imitate traditions. Cottage styled, but with modern services inside. There you’ll find marvellous views, created by what... more nature can offer; in alternative, camping is a good possibility, too. You can visit St. Finn Barre's Cathedral, founded by St. Finbarr; it is a splendid French-gothic architecture. There you’ll admire fine rose windows and the mosaic pavements. There is also the Honan Chapel and the Tudor-Gothic University College, along the Western road.

Overall Guide : Cork is a great City. Everything is within walking distance. It's good for shopping with most of the big names located on Patrick Street(or "Pana" as the locals call it). The food is amazing and everthing from Pigs trotters to... more the freshest fish and baking is availible under one roof in The English Market. The market is fit for a queen since Britan's Queen Elizabeth visited in 2011. Cyprus avenue or the Pavillion are always good for live music. Visit the Butter museum, Fota wildlife park, Fitzgerald park and museum, UCC and the Blackrock Castle observeatry.
Not to be missed The English Market , Costigans Bar , Patrick Street
