Manciano is a small town in the southern part of the province of Grosseto. Manciano was some time ago a known as a marketplace for the neighborhood of the Albegna and Fiora valleys, Located on a hill overlooking the astonishing scenery of the Maremma Tuscany. Places I visited first are Montemerano, Saturnia, Marsiliana. Montemerano, a millennium-old part of the municipality of Manciano with olive trees all around has a stunning ancient well-equipped castle known as Castello, here you will find buildings dated 13th century in the surrounding areas. There is a rural community church of San Giorgio which is all roofed with mural paintings by an artist named Andrea di Nicolo' and a four or sometimes more carved panels hinged as one by Sano di Pietro they are very old of around 1458 , one of them shows the Virgin Mary with St George, St. Lawrence & St Antony of Padua; and an exceptional wooden canvas known as Madonna della Gattaiola by locals, this painting got its name from a cat-hole underneath or gattaiola as they say. Another place worth visiting is Saturnia, this place has a history dated 12th century BC, as publicized by the Puntone necropolis and then as a Roman town, located by the side of Clodia, an old Etruscan town with medieval walls there one can find ruins of the Roman Spa, remains of a Roman road. In the valley beneath Saturnia there is a valley which is famous for its legendary with sulphur water springs having temperature 37 degree centigrade. A place that locals have been going to for thousands of years and still in use today.This natural spring was one of the things to see of our trip. We drove 2 hours to get there and well worth it. The area was clean. We felt completely safe, and the waters were AMAZING!!!!! The scene is just beautiful as well. In Marsiliana Orsini castle is one of the major attractions, formerly known for its royal image built by the Languebards, there we found pre-historic Etruscan remains. A famous festival of Strawberry that we heard from the locals but didn’t get a chance to see, known as Sagra della Fragola is held every year on the last Sunday in May. Wandering around the streets of the village we were feeling obliged for the exquisiteness and the eccentricity of the monuments, palazzo and very old structures, which are definitely unusual and splendid. There are few ancient churches...we visited Church of St. Leonardo it is a constitution with very old history behind it. Church of the Santissima Annuziata, build outside the inspirational city walls during the Middle Ages, this is a very simple building, but exceptionally unique and attractive. You can still see some fortress and watch towers in midst of ancient as well modern buildings. The Museum of Prehistory the Valle del Fiora or Hills of the Fiora as we call it has remains from the Etruscans and Romans. It also houses modernization and appealing explanatory panels which allows you to know about the expansion of the Manciano village and the various historic periods commencing from the ancient era.
