Olbia is a town which has a history of ancient Romans; tourists come here to get a feel of the Roman civilization. The remains of Phoenician and Carthaginian settlements themselves speak about the archeological proficiency of ancient time. At present it is the economic city of north-east Sardinia which draws tourists for its blue sea, well-maintained beaches and sunny days. A must see place in this town is Olbia’s archaeological museum which is located on the harbor, this museum tells you about the history of Olbia associated with the early Greeks followed by the Carthaginians and Romans presence in the area and how the civilization became independent with sea based money-making occupation of locals. We were lucky to see the concert on history of this place which happens once a year during summers. If one wants to see more of history there is a pleasant collection of prehistoric monuments around few miles north of Olbia outside the interior centre of Arzachena. This place is a destination to experience the calm and quietness of beach side as well as one can live in the ancient times of the city. We visited a Carthaginian times amazing Romanesque cathedral beautifully placed on a mountain peak of San Simplicio. People say it was built on top of a Roman temple. There are many churches to see, one of the significant museums worth a visit is the National Archaeology Museum. The famous beaches of Bados, Marinella, lo Squalo, Pittulongu and Saline, Costa Romantica, Poltu Casu and Porto Istana draw many of visitors to their white sands and sparkling waters. There are also several exceptional museums and many live music events happening, we hired a car to explore entire Sardinia and the Gallura district, you can take pleasure from the mountain side breath taking views of tranquility of peaks and houses clinging to the hillsides.
