Porta Uzeda in Catania

Catania Monuments and Historic Buildings: Porta Uzeda

HeaderPageTitle-GetPartialViewNoCache = 0,0009764

Opened in 1696 in the imposing walls built between the XIV and the XV centuries, the Porta Uzeda links the long  straight road of Via Etnea with the chaotic and picturesque area of Catania harbour.

Straight after the gate, upon the ruins of what once were the defensive bastions, you can glimpse the XVIII century facades, pointed at the Mediterranean Sea, of the archiepiscopal palace. A little bit forward, there is Palazzo Biscari with its elegant and richly decorated windows.
