Despite being less famous than the wonderful Arena or Giulietta’s House, the Arche Scaligere are one of the most important monuments in Verona. They consist of a tombs group belonged to Della Scala family, the city governors for over 150 years. In fact their domination started from the second half of XIII century for almost all the XIV century. The Arche Scaligere are in totally three: Cangrande’s ark, the oldest, the Mastino’s II ark, the richest, and the ark of Cansignorio, the youngest but probably the most beautiful. They are in Signori Square, adjacent to the ancient romanic Church of St. Mary Antique. They attract every year lots of tourist from all over the world, italian but especially foreigner. Many researchers during different periods do not hesitate to define them one of the most beautiful and significative examples of gothic art.
