Planned during the XIV century as Della Scala family house, the Castelvecchio is the most important military monument in Verona. From the inside and from the outside its structure reminds of a medieval fortress: it’s divided in three different parts (Corte della Reggia, Corte d’Armi and Corte del Mastio) and it shows ancient walls, an entry bridge (the Ponte Scaligero) and a tower named Torre dell’Orologio, which you can easily see because of its highness.
Now, inside the Castelvecchio, there’s the Castelvecchio Museum, one of the most important of the whole city: in this museum there are many artistic masterpieces such as Pisanello, Giovanni Bellini, Tiepolo, Carpaccio and Veronese paintings.
