The Archiepiscopal Museum has a beautiful marble rosette on the facing wall made in the 6th century. The most beautiful and intact sculpture is that of the Madonna, praying in the eastern direction. Other fragments give some idea of the composition of the life of Saint Apollinare, the patron saint and evangeliser of Ravenna.The mosaics are the few fragments left of what cover the apse of the first church, they are not Roman in origin but of the early 12th century. There are other splendid ivories in this National Museum of Ravenna.
