In the historical center of Palermo, the atmosphere is buzzing, the city is always moving at the crossing between Corso Vittorio Emanuele and Via Maqueta, among the Quattro Canti, an octagonal piazza, where the four areas meet, making up the so-called "octagon of the sun ". Here you can see the statues of the four holy virgins of Palermo: Santa Cristina, Ninfa, Agata and Sant'Oliva.
But the historical center of Palermo is the Church of Santa Caterina, which dates back to 1596: It faces two squares, Piazza Pretoria, with a fountain of the same name, and piazza Bellini, in which stand the Martorana Church and the San Cataldo, famous for the wonderful decoration of its single nave.
