The Museum of Archaeology Chichen Itza Zone, is located on the site of the early Mayan lowlands city of Chichen Itza which is now a Unesco World Heritage site. In 2007, Chichen Itza's El Castillo (the main focal point of the site) was named one of the ‘New Seven wonders of the world’ on the basis of a popular vote.
The Archaelogical site is open every day of the year and it is recommended that visitors come prepared to walk in some comfortable footwear. There is a sound and light show every evening which is great because it gives you the chance to finish a challenging and rewarding day exploring the deep history here the day with a relaxed and easy spectacle.
The museum itself is good and offers a variety of interesting exhibits including a range of documentary films about the site, the preservation works and the ancient civilisation. These are in Spanish and English. There is also a chance to buy indigenous crafts and sample traditional speciality foods.
