Plaza Major or Plaza Mayor is a famous tourist spot in Merida, Yucatan. A well known square in the heart of the city, this place is famous for social gatherings. This sight occupies an area equal to the size of an entire city block, enclosing on all its sides by roads. The paths here are lined with many trees and bushes. There are also seating arrangements here for the guests. This square was established the same time when the city was established, in 1542.
This place is famous for Sunday fairs, held every weekend attracting many people. The paths too are wide, allowing free movement for the pedestrians and the vendors.
