Bergen is the second largest city in Netherland and is located in the province of North Holland. This town of approximately 31,300 inhabitants is a popular destination owing to a long coastline and sandy beaches.
The best time to visit Bergen is during summer; the average temperature in July and August is 21°C. Rainfall is uniformly spread throughout the year.
The town of Bergen came up around a chapel built here during the medieval ages. Stories of miracles in this area positioned it as a popular pilgrimage; religious processions through the town have been a feature for centuries and continue till date.
The region is made up of small seaside villages along the coast; in the north, the topography of the town consists of some of the highest and widest dunes of the country.

Overall Guide : The village of Bergen is spread over the dunes. The Kranenburgh Museum displays the artwork of the local talent. The centre of the village is built around the Ruinekerk, literally the ruins of a church, and is flanked by cafes,... more restaurants and boutiques. Holland Music Sessions in which talents from around the world give concerts in the village is held in August; in October, the village hosts a 10-day art festival. The village of Bergen Aan Zee is along the coast. The Zeeaquarium houses a wide range of marine wildlife; the village also boasts of a nudist beach. The Adelbertus Abbey with its candle-making factory run by the monks and the ruins of the Egmond Castle are found in the villages of Egmonds. The villages of Schoorl and Groet are spread over high dunes and provide many opportunities for enthusiastic cyclists and walkers. The De Putten Bird Sanctuary is also located in the vicinity.
