Noordwijk, a village in the province of South Holland, is situated in the western part of Netherlands. Known for its long beaches and bulb flowers, Noordwijk is one of the most visited tourist spots in Netherlands. The city with its population of around 24,000 inhabitants is an ideal vacation spot for its visitors.
The city enjoys a maritime climate, characterised by the three seasons of summer, rains and winter. Summer is characterised by relatively warm temperatures and winters are not too cold.
A former fishing village, Noordwijk was initially inhabited by the local pagans. During the ninth century, fishing began to be replaced by the fast-growing tourism sector. Today, the city serves host to more than a million tourists per year.
Tourism is the main source of economy in Noordwijk; fishing is also widely practised.
