Overview

Port Moresby, capital city of Papua New Guinea, is located on the southern coast of New Guinea island, on Paga Point between Fairfax Harbour and Walter Bay of the Gulf of Papua. Port Moresby is also the capital of the Central District of Papua New Guinea.
As the city capital and administrative centre of Papua New Guinea, it has the greatest population density in the country.
The city area was only occupied by Motu and Koitabu people for thousands of years before 1873, when Port Moresby was discovered by the English Captain John Moresby. About 15 years later, Great Britain established the colony of British New Guinea here, and named Port Moresby the capital.
During World War II (1939-1945), Port Moresby was an important Allied military base.
The Allies defeated Japanese naval forces destined for Port Moresby in the 1942 Battle of the Coral Sea.
Modern Port Moresby is in an area of rubber plantations and experimental livestock and dairy farms.
Its exports are copra, coffee, rubber, plywood, timber, and gold. Brewing, tobacco processing, the manufacture of handicrafts and concrete and fishing are the main industries.
Unfortunately, because of a high crime rate, Port Moresby is consistently rated as one of the most dangerous cities in the whole world.

Overall Guide : Great place to get around. I would say, it's okay, safety wise. Don't know most of the small streets. Need to do some driving around to get familiar with the streets around here. Only familiar with the places which are... more more safer to go to. Need to buy more maps to read through and familiarize with the streets and locations.

Overall Guide : very extreme all premises-business have guards and razor blade fences. nice people but night can be very dangerous-very expensive hotels not at all comparable with world wide standards, beaches to dirty for swimming and also dangerous during daytime. Speed limit set... more by the amount of potholes and depth!
Not to be missed paradise bird , dowmpour during the day , aussie cemetry
