Baixa or downtown Lisbon is the heart of the city and is the significant shopping and banking district which stretches from the riverfront to the main avenue. The streets here are named as per the shopkeepers and craftsmen who traded ... Vedi tutto in this area. This neighborhood was completely destroyed in 1755 due to a major earthquake that had struck the city. It was rebuilt and is considered as the first great example of neoclassical design in Europe. It is even listed as a World Heritage site and still remains an imposing district.
