As it often happens, street food tells a lot about the diversity of cultures and people living in a town, it reflects its colours. In Cape Town in almost any neighborhood you'll happen to visit, you'll find many carts selling their specialities.
The typical Cape Town street food favourite is the Gatsby: you'll find it almost everywhere and really can't miss it! It's a baguette filled with chips and meat such as masala steak and a hot pickle called atchar.
Eastern flavours are very present here, also because the town as a large muslim community. If you happen to be in The Wellington, at 96, Long Street, you'll find the town's famous and favourite Eastern street foood spot, the Eastern Bazaar; there you'll have so much to choose from like authentic Indian Samosas, deep fried pastry pockets with spicy meats or Turkish kebabs and freshly made falafel. There's some Chinese food also and pizza. The lively atmosphere tops up the fun of choices and flavours!
While you're travelling, a lot of sidewalk snacks are sold, for instance you may try the bobotic, a curried mince meat pie, very tasty, originally made by the Cape Malay fellows. You'll be lured by so many aromas!
