The grand covered market of the Ribera, the largest commercial building of its kind in Europe, is located in Bilbao, in the outer part of the Casco Viejo.

The completely indoor market was only established in 1928, as a modernist project. But over the years, the building became less and less suited to the higher needs of merchants and customers, and so, thanks to the flood of 1983, works to modernize and enlarge the building were undertaken. The resulting building is functional and conforms to the town’s aesthetic guidelines.
