Culzean Castle & Country Park, Maybole, KA19 8LE, UK - 01655 884 400
Culzean Castle and Country Park is an 18th century castle which stands on the edge of a cliff, and overlooks the Isle of Arran. It has 568 acres of land with a farmhouse and walled gardens, fountain court, a swan pond, woodlands, deer park, herbaceous borders and terraces. The top floor of the castle which was the holiday home of Eisenhower has now been converted into an exclusive accommodation with a sitting room, dining room and 6 bedrooms.
Culzean castle and gardens are well worth the visit, there are many artifacts, and reminders of our close friendship with the American people, especialy General Eisenhower. I don't wish to seem churlish, but I, in all honesty, cannot finish without... more pointing out a peculiar fact, In most of the Scottish heritage buildings, the trusts that are assigned to run them, seem to prefer the hiring of foreign nationals as guides, to the detriment of the local citizens! from the country where they are located, and who, because of their place of birth, are better able to answer visitors questions, because of local knowledge! I am sure it must confuse the visitors also.
