Known as the largest parish church in England, St. Nicholas Church was originally founded in 1101 and consecrated in 1119, it is located in the heart of Great Yarmouth, and is considered to be the oldest building in the town.
The church hosts several events during the calendar year, which includes choir shows and exhibitions, as well as festivals and fairs in which the church opens up to allow stalls and traders inside.
The Church’s height of glory was during the Medieval Period with stained glass, tapestries, painted and gilded walls, frescos, several guild chapels and various relics of saints and ornate furniture. During World War II, the church was bombed and nearly destroyed, but was rebuilt and re-consecrated in 1961.
