London Sighseeings: London in a Day

HeaderPageTitle-GetPartialViewNoCache = 0,0009768

London is a Metropolis that can be declined in various sightseeings itinerarie: there is a political London, or a monumental London and, last but not least, the royal London. If you pop down to Whitechapel quarter you'll have a taste of the real multicultural atmosphere, not just the well known Jack the Ripper corner.

For vintage clothing, 70's memorabilia and much more you can get the Tube up to North London (Black line) to Camden Town, known also as the classic student quarter; it's a bit far out of the main tourist walks but in the last years it has become a pretty famous referral point for 70's shopping lovers!

In one day, the sightseeing offer a wide range of cultural interest sites, even if London is a town that asks the visitor very good stamina and money to spend. In fact it's well known to be a costly metropolis but definetely worth the while! For instance, transport is expensive but highly efficient and you can just get anywhere with public transport or choose an organized bus tour.

Not to miss is firstly the Westminster Abbey: most of England's King and Queens have been crowned in this early English Gothic abbey; it's open from 9.30 am so perfect start for an itinerary that will get you enjoy the main sites of this wondrous lively metropolis. You'll find the Poet's Corner in the Abbey not to miss testimony of a long lived English literary culture as well as architectural interest of the building.

Close to the Abbey we're coming right into the heart of the political London with the Houses of Parliament and the Big Ben which is the world's most famous timepiece. To gain an admission to the debating chambers you'll have to forego a long wait, but worth the while with a 1Day Visitor Pass.

Walking north along Whitehall you'll get close N°10 Downing Street, the residence of the Prime Minister; of course for security reasons you can't get to the door!

Head North to Trafalgar Square: this is Britain most famous square where also many demonstrations take place. On the Right side of the square stands with all it's cultural artistic treasures the National Gallery. It's massive! There are all great masters artworks from Leonardo Da Vinci to Rembrandt,Van Gogh to Cezanne just to mention a few.

Always North from Trafalgar Square there's lovely Covent Garden lying ahead, the old times fruit and veg market. It's time to relax and taste perhaps some of the finest English pies, a taste of real English food in one of the Covent Garden little restaurants. Walking on the right (facing The Jubilee Market), along the street, you'll find a delicious muffin shop! Nice break, isn't it? It's quite known in London.

It's Tube time now, if you want to get across and see Buckingham Palace dead easy almost a piece of cake! So get the Tube at Covent Garden up until Charing Cross station: you'll stroll along in the most aristocratic walks of the UK! Hyde Park is very close, a relaxing green spot where to rest a while your eyes (and stamina) for the main attraction of the afternoon, The Tower of London. It's been standing on the Thames for 900 years now and it holds a testimony of British History, many have lost their heads here. Since time's running up you can take an hour long tour inside the Tower.

Very fine ending for an evening spent at The Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, and for such an inspiring day a wish to come back to London soon.
