The Westlake Theater Swap Meet is a bargain hunter’s dream—an antique/flea market housed within a beautiful antique building.
Located at 685 South Alvarado Street, the Westlake Theater was a glowing movie theater in the 1920s, but has since deteriorated and finally closed in 1991. There is still some semblance of the original grandeur of the theater. The ceiling has an elaborate mural in the style of Michael Angelo, and there are still red velvet seats in the mezzanine level and a ticket box office in the front of the theater. The once majestic sign is now dilapidated and hangs outside in remembrance of what once was.
After its closing, the theater was turned into a swap market and became an oasis for bargain-hunters to convene to find that great deal. Here, you can find almost any product imaginable, from hair extensions to used DVDs, Disney products to hand-made crafts and antiques. There is something for everyone at every price range, so the swap meet attracts a variety of customers and makes for an interesting day of shopping and people watching.
