The city of Orangeburg is the seat of Orangeburg County in central South Carolina, USA. Located on the Edisto River, the city is spread over an area of 21.5 sq km and has a population of around 14,000.
Orangeburg has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and are accompanied by thunderstorms while winters are mild. The average summer temperature is 26°C, while the average winter temperature is 8°C.
The city was founded by an Indian trader named Gorge Sterling in 1704. Incorporated in 1884, it was named in honour of William IV, Prince of Orange. The agricultural community prospered due to the fertility of the soil.
Orangeburg is known for its southern charm. Surrounded by natural beauty and abundant wildlife, the city is one of the preferred vacation destinations of the state. Home to South Carolina State University and Claflin College, the city is an educational hub.

The IP Stanback Museum & Planetarium is situated on the Campus of South Carolina University and the main exhibition area is amongst the largest in the state. It is capable of hosting various types of presentations. Its main planetarium dome is about 40-feet tall and the auditorium has a capacity of 82-seats.
