It’s Disneyland. What can I say that hasn’t been said before? Despite the long waits, the overpriced food and the crowds, it’s still an experience that you can’t (and shouldn’t) avoid, whether you’re a local or a tourist.

The best tip is to remember to get your fast passes and to use them strategically. With the park entry passes, everyone is allowed one per hour, so go to the ride and grab one. Instead of wasting them on rides that will require a long wait no matter what (Indiana Jones, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain) use them on rides like Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted House, or the Tea Cups.

Also be sure to take advantage of the park hopper, because California Adventure is worth a visit as well.  Disneyland is most crowded and especially hot during July and August so if you can make it during the off-season, that’s highly recommended. California winters are mild enough that you’ll still be able to enjoy warm weather.

I know everyone complains about the overpriced food, and it is true ($7 for a funnel cake? Come on!).  However, Disneyland has some fantastic food. Aside from the classic theme park food like corn dogs, funnel cake, and churros, be sure to stop by Pizza Port by Space Mountain, The Plaza Inn at the end of Main Street and The Hungry Bear next to Splash Mountain. And of course if you’re staying for a few days, definitely eat outside of the park to save money.

Main Street is a great place to hang out, even if you don’t buy anything. And be sure to swing by the Jedi Training Academy show in Tomorrowland. Especially entertaining if you have children who can participate.

For all of the criticism and hype surrounding the park, it still remains a classic and very enjoyable place to spend a day.
