Fort Delaware had originally been built for protecting ports of Philadelphia and Wilmington. It went on to become contemporary home with regards to 33000 confederate prisoners at the time of Civil War. Right now, it functions as a state park; featuring 1859 port, nature trails, a museum having Civil War memorabilia, and observation tower for viewing ‘nesting spots’ of ‘egrets’.
