Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology in Berkeley
The Museum of Anthropology at the University of California in Berkeley was founded in 1901. The person behind this concept was Phoebe Apperson Hearst who envisioned the Museum as the cultural cornerstone and as one of the world’s leading research institutions. This museum presents some of the oldest and largest anthropological collection in the west. There are records of material culture through its more than 3.8 million objects. It promotes the history and the diversity of the human culture through exhibitions, research and programs.
