The Corcoran Gallery of Art is the largest privately supported cultural institution in Washington. The gallery was founded in 1869 by William Wilson Corcoran. It was the finest Galleries in Washington. The total building of the museum is 135,000 square feet. The building started before the civil war, and was used by the government as warehouse. It was finally completed in 1874 and the gallery is now opened to the public.
