USS Yorktown is one of 24 Essex-class aircraft carriers built during the World War II for the United States navy. It was named after the Battle of Yorktown of the American revolutionary war and is the fourth US navy ship to bear the name. It is a national historic land mark.Yorktown was launched on 21 January 1943. It was commissioned twice on 9th January 1947 and 2 January 1953, later it was decommissioned and made into a museum ship at patriot’s point, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
