Northerly Island Park in Chicago
Northerly Island Park is a fabulous park with an amazing view of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan. This park was an old airport that’s since been converted into a lovely peninsula park with bike trails and lots of grassy areas.
12th Street Beach is just a few steps away and has a fantastic beach if you want to take a swim in Lake Michigan. However if you're looking for something a little bit more peaceful and quiet, Northerly Island is the place to be. It’s the ideal spot for a bike ride, a picnic, or simply to read a good book and get some sun.
There are usually a number of people fishing here too so if that’s up your alley, this is the place to be. In the spring and summer there are beautiful wildflowers and prairie grasses, though trees are a bit scarce so be sure to pack some sunscreen and a hat.
There are rarely very many people here so it’s a good spot to get away from the crowds and enjoy a serene spot from which to view the city. Charter One Pavilion is also located on the island and with such an incredible view of the Chicago skyline, it’s a great venue to see a concert. Highly recommended.
