Every cliché contains a grain of truth. Such is the case with the infamous, impromptu, often inebriated weddings of Nevada’s gem in the desert, Las Vegas.
Underneath this popular myth is the truth that marriage licenses have for decades been easily and cheaply available in this oasis of glamour and an average of 120,000 couples each year tie the knot, whether frivolously or not, here for as little as $50.
That bargain basement price can be had at the Marriage Commission of Las Vegas, which is locally known as a "desk wedding". Other options include local churches, golf courses, themed venues and even a drive through wedding, to be found in the "wedding district".
However for those of more discerning dispositions, whether romantic or traditional, Las Vegas offers a host of beautiful locations. For example it is possible to set your special day outdoors amidst the grandeur of the Grand Canyon, the Valley of Fire, Mount Charleston or the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
