Boerum Hill is a small neighborhood in the North West portion of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. It occupies 36 blocks bounded by State Street to the north side, 4th Avenue to the east, Court Street to its west and Warren Street to the south. Boerum Hill is named for the colonial farm of the Boerum family which occupied most of the parts of the area. And most of the houses have three story row houses which were built between 1840 and 1870. Boerum Hill contains the Brooklyn House of Detention and NYCHA-run housings.
