Avondale, a neighborhood located on Chicago’s Northwest side, is best known for its Polish village (Jackawo and Waclawowo) and incredible architecture.
With an easy-going attitude Avondale is the place to find adorable mom and pop shops, authentic Polish sausages and relaxed and friendly locals. It’s a relatively inexpensive area with some great bars and some of the most impressive architecture in the city. Definitely be sure to visit the Saint Hyacinth Basilica.
Avondale is also home to some incredible restaurants. Hot Doug’s (The best hot dogs), Staropolska (Great place for Polish food), Kuma’s Corner (Burgers are out of this world), Dragon Lady Lounge (Vegan), La Cocina (Mouthwatering Mexican food), Endy’s Deli (Delicious sausages) to name a few. Best bets in this neighborhood are Polish or Mexican food.
