Mattoon Theater had been built in the year 1896, in the form of a venue for vaudeville acts and live theater. This theater was designed by Charles Mitchell, a renowned architect. At that time, it took around $25000 to get built. There had been 2 balconies, 10 boxes, 6 dressing rooms, and 60 X 50 ft. stage; along with ‘steam heating’. However, Mattoon Theater got demolished in late 1990s.
