Originally a residential area, Las Mercedes, in the Baruta Municipality, is now the largest shopping and leisure district in South America.
Filled with discos and pubs for your nightly entertainment, it has plenty of clothing and fashion stores, together with art galleries for the more culturally inclined and with a large number of restaurants offering both local and foreign cuisine for any taste.
A number of cultural activities take place in the Plaza Alfredo Sadel and along the Rio de Janeiro Avenue for the recreation of the Community, the most important being the Dia de la Raza, celebrated on October 12th, emphasizing friendship between all countries and showing exhibitions of the different customs and traditions that cohexist in Venezuela.
